Transfer News: Getafe Make Formal Offer To Sign Jadon Sancho As Free Agent

Published

Spanish club Getafe have made a formal contract offer to sign England international Jadon Sancho, who is considering his next career move after his contract with Manchester United expired earlier this summer.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Getafe are keen to reach an agreement with the 26-year-old winger as they look to strengthen their squad with experienced players ahead of the new campaign. However, negotiations with his representatives could prove challenging as both parties work towards a possible deal.

Getafe, who currently sit 14th in La Liga and will compete in the UEFA Europa Conference League, have been working to add experience to their squad. The club recently secured the signing of former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal on a contract running until June 2027.

Sancho is reportedly considering several offers and prefers a move abroad rather than remaining in England. He is yet to make a final decision on his future as he weighs up the available options.

The potential move to Spain follows a series of loan spells away from Manchester United. Sancho spent last season at Aston Villa, making 39 appearances as the club secured Champions League qualification and won the Europa League.

The England international featured as a late substitute in the Europa League final against Freiburg, reaching a European final for the third consecutive season. He had previously appeared in the competition’s final during loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea.

Chelsea had included an obligation-to-buy clause in Sancho’s loan agreement for the 2024-25 season. However, the London club opted to pay a reported £5 million penalty to return him to Manchester United after he made 41 appearances.

While assessing his future, Sancho has continued training to maintain his fitness. One of his recent training sessions took place at non-league club Flixton, prompting the North West Counties League side to clarify that the winger was not on trial with them.

Getafe’s offer now presents Sancho with a potential opportunity to continue his career in Spanish football, although his final decision will depend on the options available and the outcome of discussions with interested clubs.
