At least 25 individuals accused of the murder of Alex Timileyin, a 200-level engineering student at Ajayi Crowther University, who was fatally beaten by fellow students on May 24, 2023, allegedly over a stolen mobile phone, have been formally charged in court in Oyo State……….. CONTINUE READING 

According to court documents obtained by PUNCH Metro, Timileyin was attacked and fatally beaten inside a hostel named Shepherd Inn on the university premises. After allegedly being caught with the stolen phone, he was also forcibly shaved by his assailants.

Following the incident, the university management expelled some students believed to have participated in the crime and handed them over to the state police for prosecution.

A relative of the deceased, identified as “Lord of Warri” on X.com, had previously petitioned Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to ensure justice for Timileyin. In an update, the relative expressed gratitude to the authorities for pursuing the case and shared documents detailing the arraignment of the suspects.

The court has remanded the accused in prison until July 8, pending trial. Charges against them include conspiracy and failure to rescue the victim from the assault.

The university and the state police command have not issued further statements on the matter as of the time of this report.
