The truck driver responsible for the tragic death of a recent graduate from Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, has been apprehended and is currently in police custody.
Mary Ogechi Ezekiel, a high-achieving graduate from the Department of Accounting, had visited the school on Tuesday, March 5, for clearance in preparation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Unfortunately, as she exited the school gate, she was struck by a tricycle. Before she could recover from the initial impact, a speeding truck fatally crushed her (read more here).
Following the incident, students from the school organized a protest and blocked the expressway to express their grievances. Police intervention was necessary to pacify the enraged students, leading to the subsequent detention of the truck driver.
An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
