Trump’s statement follows a recent post by a conservative activist, which claimed that the president-elect is “prepared to declare a national emergency” and use military resources to counter what he described as a “Biden invasion,” through a large-scale deportation effort. Trump, endorsing the message, simply commented, “True!”

During his campaign, Trump had repeatedly stated his intention to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to expedite deportations. His comeback victory over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 election has sparked further focus on his immigration agenda.

As part of his administration’s plans, Trump has assembled a cabinet filled with immigration hardliners, including naming former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) acting chief Tom Homan as his “border czar.” Homan, who made a significant appearance at the Republican National Convention in July, warned immigrants, “You better start packing now,” addressing those released into the U.S. under the Biden administration.

Estimates suggest that around 11 million undocumented immigrants currently reside in the U.S., with Trump’s proposed deportation strategy set to affect roughly 20 million families. The move comes amid heightened tensions over the U.S.-Mexico border, where the Trump administration has framed the influx of migrants as an “invasion” and a serious threat to American security, claiming that many migrants pose risks of violence.
