Trump Enacts Sweeping Travel Ban: 12 Nations Barred, 7 Face Tightened Controls (Full List)

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a ban on citizens from twelve countries entering the United States. In addition, he declared partial travel restrictions on citizens from seven other nations.

Trump made the proclamation on Wednesday, stating that the measures are necessary to safeguard the U.S. against “foreign terrorists” and various security threats.

The twelve countries subject to a full entry ban include Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Meanwhile, citizens from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will face partial restrictions.

The new rules will take effect on June 9, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. EDT (5:01 a.m. Nigerian time).

“We will not permit anyone who intends to harm us to enter our country,” Trump stated in a video shared on .

He also warned that the list could be updated, with more countries added if necessary.

According to Trump, the countries facing the strictest bans were identified as having a significant terrorist presence.

Others were restricted due to poor cooperation on visa security, failure to verify travelers’ identities, inadequate criminal record management, and high rates of visa overstays in the U.S.

“We cannot allow open migration from any country where we cannot confidently and securely vet those seeking entry into the United States,” Trump emphasized.
