Trump–Putin Showdown: Former U.S. President Reveals Time And Place

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin next week in Alaska, adding that any potential agreement to end the war in Ukraine could involve a territorial swap.

The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin of Russia will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,” Trump revealed on his Truth Social platform.

Speaking earlier at the White House, Trump hinted, “There’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both Ukraine and Russia,” without offering further details.

The Kremlin confirmed the summit, calling the choice of location “quite logical.” Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov stated on Telegram that the two leaders would “undoubtedly focus on discussing options for achieving a long-term peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.”

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, tens of thousands have been killed and millions displaced. Despite three failed rounds of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, Trump has spent his early months in office trying to broker a deal, though without a breakthrough.

Ahead of the Alaska meeting, Putin consulted with the leaders of China and India. However, he has rejected multiple calls from the U.S., Europe, and Kyiv for a ceasefire and has ruled out direct talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky—talks Zelensky considers essential for progress.

Last month in Istanbul, Russian negotiators presented tough territorial demands, urging Kyiv to relinquish control of certain regions and abandon Western military backing.

The Alaska summit will mark the first face-to-face meeting between a sitting U.S. and Russian president since Joe Biden met Putin in Geneva in June 2021. Trump and Putin last met at the 2019 G20 summit in Japan during Trump’s first term, though they have spoken several times by phone since January.

Ushakov also disclosed that Putin has invited Trump to visit Russia, expressing hope that their next meeting could take place on Russian soil.
