Two Policemen Hospitalized After Clash With Cultists In Akwa Ibom

In a recent incident in Akwa Ibom State, two officers of the Nigeria Police Force, who were reportedly on an undercover mission, sustained serious injuries inflicted by suspected cult members.

According to reports obtained by Naija News, the officers, stationed at the Abak local government area divisional headquarters, narrowly escaped being lynched but endured multiple machete and projectile assaults by the criminals.

The confrontation arose when the officers, operating in an unmarked vehicle, attempted to apprehend a wanted criminal known as Udo in Ibong Ikot Akpan Abasi Village, Otoro Clan. Despite successfully apprehending the suspect, their vehicle experienced mechanical issues while en route back to the station.

This unexpected delay prompted the wanted criminal to raise a false alarm, claiming abduction by unknown persons. In response, local youths mobilized to purportedly rescue him, subsequently launching a brutal attack on the officers with machetes and other weapons.

A resident, speaking anonymously, described the severity of the assault and the disbelief faced by the officers despite presenting their identity cards due to their civilian appearance and unmarked vehicle.

Miraculously, intervention from the paramount ruler of Abak, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Obong Saviour Udofia, facilitated the evacuation of the injured officers to a hospital for treatment.

The police authorities have confirmed the incident and assured that the affected officers are receiving medical attention at a confidential medical facility. They have also committed to conducting a thorough investigation to apprehend and prosecute all those responsible for the attack, including any accomplices.

State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Waheed Ayilara, has directed a specialized investigation team to collaborate with other security agencies in pursuit of the wanted criminal mastermind and his associates involved in the assault.
