Unbelievable! Why Senator Kingibe Says Wike’s ₦1 Trillion FCT Budget Is ‘Exactly What Nigeria Needs

Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has responded to online backlash following her endorsement of Minister Nyesom Wike’s proposed ₦1.78 trillion 2025 budget for the FCT.

Wike had presented the budget on Wednesday before the Senate and House of Representatives, with 70% allocated to capital projects—a move Senator Kingibe praised.

As a Labour Party lawmaker, Kingibe’s support for the budget drew mixed reactions from her online followers, some of whom argued the figure was excessive. In response, she called on critics to rise above political sentiments and focus on the collective welfare of FCT residents.

In a statement clarifying her stance, she said:

“A video showing my support for the FCT budget has sparked some discussion online. I feel compelled to explain my position clearly. I am a senator known for speaking the truth, regardless of whether it is popular or politically convenient.

“My endorsement of the budget stems from its strong focus on capital development. With more than 70% earmarked for critical infrastructure, health, education, and housing, this budget—if properly executed—can significantly address the pressing needs of our people.

“We cannot afford to be divided by politics when the needs are so urgent. Internally displaced persons need better care, our youth need real opportunities, and basic services must be improved. These are everyday realities—not political slogans.

“I remain committed to holding the government accountable and ensuring transparency throughout the implementation of this budget. Governance should always prioritize the people, not personal or party interests.”

She reaffirmed her dedication to improving lives across the FCT and urged Nigerians to evaluate public policies based on their impact rather than partisan lines.
