Emphasizing that this decision aligns with the Federal Government’s guidelines on the creation of fellowships and churches within educational institutions, the vice chancellor highlighted that the university has permitted the operation of the Catholic Church, Protestant Chapel, and a mosque within its premises.

Obi further stated that these recognized religious organizations are provided with land to construct their worship centers within the university campus. However, she clarified that due to space limitations, it is not feasible to allocate land to every church in the town.

Addressing concerns about individuals unable to worship in the approved centers on campus, Obi assured that both staff and students are free to worship outside the campus if they choose to do so. Additionally, she mentioned that the university prohibits the use of classrooms for fellowship activities to avoid distractions.

In essence, Prof. Florence Obi emphasized that the university’s stance is not a ban on worship centers but rather a policy to regulate their establishment on the campus, ensuring a structured and conducive environment for academic activities.
