Unknown Gunmen Kill RCCG Pastor, Abduct Church Members

In a tragic incident that unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, gunmen attacked the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The State So-Safe Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the distressing event. He stated that his officers swiftly responded to the situation, rescuing the seven church members and engaging in a confrontation with the assailants. During the operation, one of the kidnappers was killed.

Ganzallo’s statement, conveyed through the So-Safe Corps Director of Information and Public Relations, Moruf Yusuf, reported, “The special operation team of the Corps, Owode-Egba Zonal Command, under ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi, received a distress call that some members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, were attacked during a vigil, resulting in the kidnapping of seven church members and the killing of the pastor.”

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state Command, Omolola Odutola, also confirmed the incident, stating that one of the pastors, Adesina Oyesegun, reported the attack at the local police station.

According to Odutola, Oyesegun recounted the terrifying ordeal, saying, “He was in church with other pastors and church members when some hoodlums numbering about seven invaded their church, attacking them with guns, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons with the intent to kidnap members.”

Amidst the chaos, Pastor Kayode Oluwakemi, aged 56, sustained fatal gunshot wounds to his chest and tragically lost his life on the spot.

However, the swift response of nearby villagers and security personnel led to a confrontation with the suspected kidnappers. The exchange of gunfire resulted in the rescue of the kidnapped victims and the neutralization of one unidentified kidnapper. The injured suspects fled the scene, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
