A Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator in Lagos State prevented a potential fraud attempt on Friday when a customer, Linda Ihebinike, tried to carry out a transaction using counterfeit Naira notes amounting to N90,000.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, revealed this via his official communication channel on Sunday.

According to Hundeyin, the PoS operator became suspicious when Ihebinike tried to use fake N1,000 notes for a purchase totaling N90,000. Promptly, the operator raised an alarm, thwarting the fraudulent transaction.

Hundeyin stated, “A vigilant PoS operator raised an alarm after a customer, Linda Ihebinike, attempted to carry out a transaction with counterfeit N1,000 notes totaling N90,000. Investigation is currently ongoing.”

In a related incident reported earlier in March by The BUSHRADIOGIST, two individuals, James Akomolafe and Olaoluwa Ogbere, were arraigned in the Yaba Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing from multiple PoS operators under false pretenses.

The defendants reportedly visited the Mile 12 market in Ketu, claiming to check their account balance at a PoS stand. However, they deceived the operator, swapped the machines with their own, and absconded to an undisclosed location, stealing a total of N662,000 from the accounts.
