Uyo Comes Alive as Ministry of Regional Development Launches Empowerment Program to Tackle Youth Unemployment

In a bold move to tackle youth unemployment and curb restiveness across the South-South, the Ministry of Regional Development, under the leadership of Engr. Abubakar Momoh, FNSE, has kicked off a transformative 5-day skills acquisition program in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Representing the Honourable Minister at the event was the Special Assistant on Special Duties, Augustine Azebeokhai, who reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to grassroots empowerment and inclusive development.

The program is designed to empower young Nigerians with hands-on, income-generating skills through intensive training in areas such as hairdressing, tailoring, shoemaking, bag-making, detergent production, and other essential crafts.

Azebeokhai, while addressing participants, emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader agenda to redirect youthful energy into productive ventures. “If we want to secure the future, we must empower the present,” he stated. “This program is about building capacity, creating jobs, and ultimately reducing social vices by giving our youths something meaningful to hold on to.”

Participants drawn from communities across Akwa Ibom State expressed gratitude for the rare opportunity to gain skills that can transform their lives and communities.

This initiative is a direct reflection of the Ministry’s mandate under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — one that places premium value on people-centric development, sustainable empowerment, and regional inclusion.

With more of such programs lined up across Nigeria’s geo-political zones, the message is loud and clear: the Ministry of Regional Development is not just building roads and bridges — it is building people.
