According to a statement released by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Wakil, the suspect unlawfully entered a Christian cemetery in the Yelwan Kagadama area of Bauchi during the day. While there, he damaged multiple graves and stole iron rods.
“During interrogation, Saidu confessed to the crimes, admitting he sold the stolen iron rods in several transactions, earning N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500,” Wakil said.
The suspect further revealed that he used the money from the sales to buy Indian hemp and food for his personal consumption.
Wakil also noted that the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, has directed that Saidu be prosecuted once the investigation is concluded. He urged parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their children and wards to prevent such incidents.
