VDM Sparks Controversy As He Questions Pastor Arome’s Decision To Relocate His Family
Nigerian activist VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM, has criticised Pastor Arome Osayi after the cleric and his wife announced that they had secured permanent residence in the United States.
VDM questioned the decision, drawing attention to some of Pastor Arome’s previous teachings about Nigeria’s national calling, prayer and the need for young Nigerians to understand the different purposes of nations.
In a video referenced by the activist, Pastor Arome spoke about the differences between countries such as Nigeria and China, particularly in relation to technological development. He argued that Nigerians should not necessarily compare their activities with China’s technological achievements because, in his view, nations have different callings.
Pastor Arome was quoted as saying that while China may be producing engines and other technological innovations, Nigeria’s emphasis on prayer reflects what he described as the country’s calling toward revival.
Reacting to the remarks, VDM argued that such teachings could encourage young Nigerians to place greater emphasis on prayer while paying less attention to creativity, innovation, technology and practical development.
He questioned why Pastor Arome would relocate his family to the United States, which VDM described as a country whose development has been heavily influenced by technology, education, innovation and entrepreneurship.
VDM said the decision appeared inconsistent with the message he believed the pastor was communicating to Nigerian youths about relying on prayer rather than focusing on technological advancement and creative solutions.
The activist also questioned the public announcement of Pastor Arome’s permanent residency, particularly because the cleric had reportedly indicated that he prayed about the development.
According to VDM, young Nigerians who look up to religious leaders could interpret such actions alongside their teachings and ask questions about the practical application of the messages being promoted.
VDM further referenced prominent American entrepreneurs and technology companies while making his argument. He pointed to figures such as Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk as examples of people associated with innovation and entrepreneurship.
He argued that technological advancement requires creativity, education, critical thinking and practical action, while acknowledging that individuals may also attach importance to faith and prayer.
The activist maintained that Nigerian youths should not be discouraged from studying the technological progress of countries such as China. He questioned the idea of telling young Nigerians to focus solely on prayer when other countries are investing heavily in science, technology, manufacturing and innovation.
According to Bush Radio Academy, VDM’s comments have reignited discussions about the relationship between faith, national development, innovation and the messages religious leaders communicate to young Nigerians.
