After Galatasaray secured their place in the knockout stages following a dramatic play-off victory over Juventus, all eyes have turned to Friday’s draw and the quality of teams awaiting the Turkish champions. Possible opponents include Premier League sides Liverpool and Tottenham, both capable of challenging any team in Europe.
Osimhen, however, admitted that while Galatasaray are prepared for any matchup, there are certain ties he would prefer to avoid.
“To be honest, facing Liverpool now would feel like a chance for revenge,” the Nigerian striker told CBS Sports.
“Anyone we face at this stage… I wouldn’t say much, but I’d like to avoid Liverpool. But if we do get them, we’ll fight hard — it won’t be easy, of course.”
Galatasaray have already met Liverpool this season, securing a narrow 1-0 win in Istanbul, with Osimhen scoring the decisive goal. Yet he acknowledges that a trip to Anfield would present a completely different challenge.
He added:
“This is the Champions League — no team is easy. Just look at how well Bodo/Glimt are performing. If you want to win, you have to face the big teams and prove yourself. We’ve played Liverpool, but not at Anfield. If we meet them there, it will be an incredible game. We’re ready for the challenge. It won’t be easy, but we have the fight in us.”
The 2025-2026 UEFA Champions League round of 16 draw is set for Friday, February 27.
