VIDEO: Rotimi Amaechi Clashes With Security Operatives Amid Protest Chaos
A tense standoff unfolded between former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and police officers at the National Assembly complex on Tuesday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a viral video, Amaechi, who also served as the former Minister of Transportation, was seen engaged in a heated exchange with police operatives. He appeared visibly agitated, raising his voice and gesturing repeatedly, while security personnel tried to control the situation.
The confrontation continued for several minutes despite attempts by his aides to calm him, before Amaechi eventually stepped away from the scene.
Amaechi had come to the National Assembly to protest the Senate’s rejection of mandatory electronic transmission of election results. He noted that he attended the demonstration alongside his son to set an example that leaders should lead protests alongside their families.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain urged Nigerians to take to the streets and called on all opposition parties to join in protesting the Senate’s decision.
Amaechi accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of opposing electronic transmission because it fears losing future elections. He questioned why the party should be afraid, especially after attracting several opposition governors and prominent politicians.
He further asserted that while Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Bola Tinubu may ignore public demands, opposition parties and civil society groups will continue to push until the decision is reversed.
