A Nigerian cleric residing abroad has criticized the Yoruba people for organizing protests related to hunger and economic difficulties. He emphasized, “Hope it is not that you have been cursed? You Yorubas! What has Tinubu done that you guys are shouting he is causing you to go hungry? You did not cry for eight years when a soldier ruled. When under him, a substantial amount of money was stolen. Emefiele stole billions, the Accountant General stole billions of dollars, not Naira. Is it not under him that Malami served? You know the billions they took? And nobody shouted. You Yorubas, you did not come out at the time to protest that you were hungry.”
The cleric pointed out the irony that the Yorubas are now protesting after only eight months into a new administration when they remained silent during a much longer period under a different leadership. He warned that if Tinubu were to lose the position, future generations might not forgive the Yoruba people.
He further alleged that some individuals are unhappy about a Nigerian from the South West being in power, urging the Yorubas not to align with them in discrediting the Tinubu regime. The cleric suggested that the recent fuel subsidy removal was a deliberate attempt to set a trap for Tinubu’s failure but asserted that Tinubu would overcome it.
Addressing the Yorubas, he urged, “All you Yorubas, you better talk to yourselves before you suffer terribly from those who have stolen billions. Is Yoruba amongst those that have stolen billions? Mention a Yoruba that has stolen billions? You are shouting ‘We are hungry’ in Ibadan, Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti. You better not allow hunger to afflict you if you make the mistake of letting this presidency slip from the Yorubas.
