Violence Erupts: Plateau University Shuts Down Amidst Security Concerns

Plateau State University, Bokkos, has declared a 10-day suspension of all academic activities in response to recent events. This decision follows a tragic nighttime assault resulting in the death of a 200-level Computer Science student near the university premises.

According to Yakubu Ayuba, the institution’s Registrar, the primary aim of this suspension is to enhance the security situation within the university community. Additionally, the university management has arranged transportation for students who may find themselves stranded.

In an official statement released on Saturday, Ayuba expressed the management’s sorrow over the recent incident and acknowledged its profound impact on both students and staff. The decision to close the university until April 29, 2024, is intended to allow for improvements in security and to minimize risks to individuals within the university community. Consequently, ongoing first-semester examinations have been postponed and are scheduled to resume on May 2, 2024.

Moreover, the management has arranged for buses to assist stranded students in returning to Barkin Ladi from the university.
