He conveyed this message during a meeting with a delegation from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
Led by Mr. Rodger Voorhies, President of the foundation’s Global Growth & Opportunity Division, the discussion delved into the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity.
Vice President Shettima emphasized the necessity of implementing climate-smart farming practices to ensure food security for Nigeria’s growing population.
In a plea for collaboration, the Vice President urged the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to forge a strategic alliance with the Nigerian government.
The objective is to enhance agricultural output, improve nutrition, and strengthen the educational system.
Furthermore, Vice President Shettima requested the Foundation’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives related to gender empowerment.
He underscored the significance of girl-child-focused programming in Nigeria’s poverty reduction efforts.
Expressing gratitude for the foundation’s substantial contributions, particularly in primary healthcare delivery and polio eradication, Vice President Shettima stated, “We are heavily investing in agricultural innovation and best practices to boost productivity.
However, we seek the expertise and resources of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to expedite our progress.”
