Wabara Speaks Out On Bribery For FCC Employment Opportunities

In an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH, Wabara recounted his visit to the FCC while seeking job placements for constituents. He alleged that he was told job opportunities were contingent on paying a bribe. “I physically went to the FCC, requesting jobs for people in my wards. I learned that nothing would be done unless I paid,” he said.

This isn’t the first instance of job racketeering allegations against the FCC. During a House of Representatives committee hearing, 14 witnesses testified about paying a former FCC desk officer, Haruna Kolo, for job placements. Kolo admitted to accepting bribes, claiming he passed the money to Dankaka. However, the committee, led by Yusuf Gagdi (APC, Plateau), has yet to release its findings, raising concerns about potential suppression of the investigation.

Wabara criticized the APC-led government and the National Assembly for neglecting these corruption allegations, expressing disappointment that no action has been taken despite their severity. “I expected swift action similar to that against Betta Edu,” he said.

Attempts to reach committee chairman Gagdi for comment were unsuccessful, as were efforts to contact House spokesman Akin Rotimi.

In response to the allegations, APC chieftain Adebayo Shittu called for a thorough investigation, confirming that an FCC member corroborated the claims. Shittu emphasized the need for accountability and fair investigations into corruption, urging swift action to restore public trust in the FCC.

“This issue transcends politics; it’s about ensuring justice. I appeal to the President and the Senate President to initiate a proper investigation,” he concluded.
