WAEC Breaks Silence: ‘We Never Withheld 2025 Results Of 120 Schools

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has refuted claims circulating on social media that the results of 120 schools were withheld in the recently released 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) over alleged exam malpractice.

In a statement released on Monday, WAEC confirmed that the 2025 WASSCE results had been published, with 38.32% of candidates securing five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.

Following the release, a fake document began spreading on WhatsApp, falsely signed by WAEC’s so-called Director of Examination Malpractice and Irregularities, Dr. Florence Omobonike Ajayi. The forged circular listed 120 schools—mostly in Lagos—and claimed they were summoned to appear before WAEC’s Investigative Panel with scripts and supporting documents by Friday, August 16, 2025.

Upon inquiry, WAEC dismissed the document as fraudulent, asserting that no such circular was issued and that the Council would never request schools to submit examination scripts.

“The message is fake and did not originate from us,” WAEC told Tribune Online. “In fact, WAEC does not recognize schools by name but by centre numbers, and we would never ask schools to bring in students’ scripts—those are securely stored.”

WAEC has cautioned candidates, parents, and the general public to ignore the viral misinformation and rely solely on its official communication channels for verified updates.
