Wale Edun Breaks Silence: “I Never Approved ₦13 Billion Contracts Illegally
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has firmly denied claims that he approved contracts totaling ₦13 billion without adhering to established procedures.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released Monday by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga, the Federal Ministry of Finance dismissed the allegations as baseless and malicious.
According to the ministry, an online report had accused Edun and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, of colluding to award the contracts between February and June 2024 without following due process.
Responding to the claims, Edun insisted that every contract awarded during his tenure — including those related to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG) — strictly complied with the Public Procurement Act and all applicable legal frameworks.
The statement described the publication as an attempt to damage the reputations of both the Minister and the Permanent Secretary and urged the public to disregard the false narrative.
It reads in part:
“The attention of the Federal Ministry of Finance has been drawn to an online report by Akelicious, suggesting that the Ministry under the leadership of Honourable Minister Wale Edun and Permanent Secretary Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, awarded ₦13 billion worth of contracts without due process between February and June 2024.
The Ministry categorically states that these allegations are entirely false and intended to undermine the credibility of its leadership and distract from the significant efforts being made to revitalize Nigeria’s economy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
