The video, which emerged on Wednesday, showed the officer with a swollen face and a bleeding nose, surrounded by members of the public shouting “ole” (thief).

However, Lagos police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi described the narrative accompanying the footage as false and misleading in a statement on Thursday.

According to Adebisi, the incident occurred while the officer, attached to the Lagos State Taskforce, was enforcing a ban on illegal parking along Brown Street, Oshodi. The situation escalated after the officer stopped a motorist attempting to park improperly.

The statement added that the Inspector has been subjected to disciplinary actions in line with established police procedures for unprofessional conduct. In addition, thirteen suspects captured in the viral video assaulting the officer have been arrested and are currently in police custody, awaiting prosecution upon the completion of investigations.
