We Are Not Spirits!” – EFCC Boss Olukoyede Breaks Silence On Allegations Of Corruption in Commission

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has addressed growing concerns over alleged corruption among operatives of the anti-graft agency.

According to Naija News, there have been persistent accusations that some EFCC personnel exploit their positions for personal gain. Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, April 30, Olukoyede acknowledged the issue, stating that EFCC staff are not perfect and are, ultimately, human beings.

“Nobody in the EFCC is a saint. We are not spirits,” he said.

Olukoyede revealed that officers found guilty of misconduct were subjected to disciplinary procedures, with many being held accountable for their actions. He emphasized the importance of integrity in fighting corruption, noting that any operative found to have compromised the agency’s values would be removed.

“We reviewed the cases, set up a disciplinary committee, and a good number of officers were found culpable,” he said. “So far, we’ve dismissed about 27 staff members whose conduct was deemed unfit for our anti-corruption mandate.”

He admitted that total perfection in the agency is unrealistic, but reassured Nigerians that every credible allegation is taken seriously. “I won’t claim everyone in the EFCC is now a saint. That’s impossible. People will err. But I’ve promised Nigerians that any misconduct we uncover will be addressed according to our rules and the law,” he concluded.
