In a video that has rapidly circulated online, several women expressed their frustration, revealing that they had been promised a different type of gathering. Instead, they found themselves carrying placards opposing the upcoming protest against economic hardship. One woman in the video lamented that they had been led to believe the event was solely for receiving assistance, not for counter-protesting.
An X-user who provided a translation of the video noted that a woman speaking in Hausa said: “They were deceived. They were told they would receive food assistance and that it was simply a gathering, not a protest. Now they are left without money, food, water, or transport fare.”
