The revelations come amid ongoing questions surrounding the circumstances of their abduction, the death of the retired military officer, and the dramatic rescue of his wife, who survived a gunshot wound.

Although Hajiya Amina has yet to publicly narrate her ordeal, sources close to her during her hospital treatment have shared insights into the final moments of the captivity and the events that followed her husband’s death.

The incident has continued to spark national concern, with renewed calls for stronger action against insecurity and greater accountability in handling high-profile kidnappings.

Until her recent transfer to Abuja on June 18, 2026, for advanced medical care, she was reportedly receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina, where access was highly restricted to medical staff, close relatives, select associates, and senior officials.

According to individuals familiar with her account, she began recounting the traumatic experience after regaining some strength during treatment.

One source said she described panic and confusion among the abductors shortly after the death of her husband.

“She told us that immediately after the general died, the bandits became extremely unsettled and began acting in haste,” the source explained.

The kidnappers, according to the account, quickly gathered their motorcycles and attempted to escape the area.

“They placed her on one of the motorcycles and fled the hideout. It appeared they prioritised moving her over other captives, as no effort was made to evacuate the rest,” the source added.

While fleeing through the forest, the bandits reportedly heard distant gunfire, which caused panic and disarray within the group.

“The sound of gunshots confused them, and they scattered in different directions instead of moving together,” the source said.

In the chaos, the man riding with her allegedly abandoned the motorcycle mid-journey, forced her to dismount, and, in a violent outburst, shot her in the thigh before fleeing.

Left behind in severe pain and bleeding heavily, she was later discovered by a resident of a nearby settlement.

According to the source, the man who found her asked what had happened, and she briefly recounted her ordeal while struggling to breathe and visibly distressed.

He reportedly inquired whether she was the wife of General Rabe, and she confirmed.

Before help could arrive, both reportedly heard approaching gunfire believed to be from advancing troops, forcing the man to flee for safety.

Moments later, military personnel arrived at the scene and discovered her lying injured in the bush.

“The soldiers found her in a pool of blood and immediately realised her identity after she identified herself,” the source said.

The discovery reportedly triggered an emotional response among the troops, who quickly coordinated evacuation efforts.

The local resident who initially found her later returned to assist the soldiers in moving her to safety.

With limited equipment on ground, she was reportedly carried on a makeshift plank to a waiting vehicle before being rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

She later received first aid before being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina, where doctors confirmed that although the bullet caused significant bleeding, it did not fracture any bone.

“The bullet passed through the upper thigh, between the hip and knee. It was serious, but thankfully not bone-shattering,” a source explained.

Following stabilization, she was later moved to Abuja for further specialized medical care as investigations into the abduction and related security operations continue.
