Media entrepreneur Dele Momodu has disclosed that he once advised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, to consider a political alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Momodu, however, said Obi declined the suggestion, insisting that he believed he was more popular than the former vice president.

He made the revelation during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, where he recounted his conversation with the former Anambra State governor.

According to him, he encouraged Obi to work with Atiku, noting that the former vice president had played a key role in elevating Obi’s national political profile.

“I told Peter, why don’t you go and work with Atiku. Atiku was the person who brought him to national prominence,” Momodu said.

He also recalled that Atiku’s choice of Obi as his running mate in the 2019 presidential election was met with resistance within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“When Atiku picked Peter, the governors were angry, but one thing about Atiku is that once he makes up his mind, he’s a very focused man,” he added.

Momodu explained that he tried to persuade Obi by citing examples of leaders who rose to higher political positions after serving as deputies or vice presidents.

“So, I told Peter, I said sir, Your Excellency, try and work with this man (Atiku), then I gave him copious examples,” he said.

He referenced former Ghanaian President John Mahama, noting that his rise was made possible through his role as vice president, as well as former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and U.S. President Joe Biden, as examples of leaders who leveraged deputy positions to achieve higher office.

However, Momodu said Obi remained unconvinced by the argument.

“You’ve always been a governor of a state but Peter told me he’s more popular than Atiku,” he added.
