He expressed concern that Wike’s political maneuvers are aimed at unseating Governor Siminalaye Fubara, pressuring his deputy into resignation, and installing the Speaker of the State Assembly as the new Governor.
Clark strongly criticized the security forces’ actions against Fubara, emphasizing that Nigeria is a democracy, and everyone must respect democratic principles.
He stated, “I have been deeply troubled by the recent events in Rivers State over the past 24 hours. I have received credible information indicating an unlawful plot to remove Governor Siminalaye Fubara, who has been in office for just about five months.
I understand that these actions are being orchestrated by the former Governor of Rivers State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike.
Their intention is to unseat the Governor, coerce his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, into resigning, and install another Ikwerre individual from the State Assembly as Governor.
Let me emphasize that we will not allow such a scenario to occur. President Bola Tinubu must promptly engage Nyesom Wike and the security agencies in Rivers State to prevent any potential crisis.
Last night, the esteemed chambers of the Rivers State House of Assembly were set on fire, apparently as part of the scheme to destabilize the State.
The Governor was subjected to tear gas and even faced threats of being shot when he visited the Assembly Complex to assess the extent of the damage.
We are not in a state of lawlessness where people can act with impunity; we are in a democracy, and all parties must adhere to the principles of constitutional democracy.
