Where Are Rivers’ Billions? – Adegboruwa Demands Tinubu, NASS Probe Ibas’ Troubled Six-Month Reign
Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly (NASS) to publish a comprehensive report on the six-month administration of retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, who governed Rivers State during the state of emergency.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Adegboruwa emphasized that Rivers State’s immense wealth makes transparency non-negotiable.
“Rivers is one of the richest states in Nigeria. Somebody governed it alone for six months. What is his report? How did he manage the state’s resources? What is contained in the handover? These are matters that must be made public to guide us,” he stated.
The human rights lawyer further insisted that President Tinubu, the Federal Executive Council, and the National Assembly—who all exercised oversight during the emergency—owe Nigerians a clear account of events.
“Under Section 305, those who oversaw the emergency period, namely the President, the Federal Executive Council, and the National Assembly, must render a report to the people,” Adegboruwa argued.
He questioned the financial and administrative decisions taken by Ibas, stressing that Nigerians deserve answers.
“How were Rivers’ resources managed? What decisions did the sole administrator make, and what did he leave behind? Nigerians are entitled to know how much came in and how it was used,” he declared.
Naija News recalls that Ibas officially handed over to the reinstated governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday. In his farewell broadcast, Ibas urged Rivers people to rally behind Fubara as he resumes his duties.
Fubara had been suspended by President Tinubu six months ago when emergency rule was declared in the state. On Wednesday, the President lifted the emergency and restored Fubara to office.
