In the now-viral clip, Pastor Ibiyeomie warned bloggers and critics against misrepresenting his sermons, stating that he would take decisive action against anyone who “crosses the line.” He emphasized that he would not be swayed by pleas for leniency, vowing to deal firmly with offenders.
“When I go after people, they usually send others to beg on their behalf. But next time, there won’t be any warnings. I know your parents – they won’t beg me. I’ll deal with you,” the pastor declared.
“Don’t publish my news, whether good or bad. I’m already speaking to the world. I don’t want to be featured in your content. Leave my church out of your media.”
Reacting on X (formerly Twitter), Adeyanju expressed disappointment over the pastor’s threats, reminding him that even Jesus Christ faced criticism without resorting to intimidation.
“I’m deeply disappointed in Papa David Ibiyeomie for threatening Nigerians who criticize him or his church. Who are you that people can’t speak about your ministry? Even Jesus was criticized, and He never arrested anyone,” Adeyanju wrote.
He further condemned the pastor’s approach as authoritarian, accusing him of trying to suppress public discourse through fear and intimidation.
“A pastor boasting about using the police to arrest people? This is shameful. These actions are tarnishing the image of Christianity. It’s part of why many Nigerians are losing faith in the church.”
