Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, made this announcement during a briefing on the preparations for the upcoming 63rd Independence Day anniversary. Senator Akume, who chairs the organizing committee, shared that there is a fresh team in place at the CBN, and the special investigator has been diligently examining the circumstances for some time.

The outcomes of this investigation will soon be unveiled, shedding light on what transpired and how the country arrived at its current state.

SGF Akume emphasized, “Many of the challenges we face today stem from issues of governance. The current administration is actively addressing these challenges.

When President Bola Tinubu assumed office, he made a critical decision regarding the CBN. This decisive action resulted in a significant boost to the capital market, an accomplishment unprecedented in the past 15 years, as experts have attested.”

On July 28, President Tinubu appointed Mr. Jim Obazee, the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), as the special investigator for the CBN.

The President instructed the investigator to provide weekly reports to keep him informed of the progress of the investigation, underscoring the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
