Why Men Are Leading The Defense Of Sharia Law In The South West – Muslim Woman Speaks Out

A Muslim woman from the South West has called on women to be more vocal in opposing the introduction of Sharia Law in Yoruba Land.

This comes after a pamphlet announcing the inauguration of a Sharia Court in Oyo State went viral, sparking widespread reactions. While some defended the move, asserting that it would only apply to Muslims, many social media users voiced their strong opposition to the implementation of Sharia Law in the region.

In a post on X, the Muslim woman highlighted that most of the supporters of Sharia Law in the South West are men, arguing that their stance is due to the fact that they will not be as affected by its potential consequences as women would.

She wrote: “You see this Sharia Law they want to introduce in the South West? I need women to speak up and reject it! We will be the ones to bear the brunt of it!”

She added: “This is not just about ‘I don’t want to get involved in religious matters.’ Notice how the people defending it are men? That’s because they won’t experience its impact like we will.”

She further pointed out, “They are men, and they’re exempt unless they commit a crime. But as a woman, you are already considered guilty just by existing.”
