Why We Denied Peter Obi Venue — OAU Reveals Sh*cking Reason
The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has explained why it declined to approve a venue for a lecture proposed to be delivered by former presidential candidate Peter Obi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Obi had earlier announced he was billed to deliver a keynote lecture at the university before heading to Ibadan for an opposition summit, but later revealed the event was cancelled. He also noted that similar cancellations had happened to him several times in the past.
Reacting in a statement on Sunday, OAU said the venue request was rejected because the organisers gave insufficient notice ahead of the programme.
According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, organisers only provided key details about the event and its guests on Friday, barely a day before the scheduled lecture.
The university said the late notice made it impossible to put in place the security and logistical arrangements required for hosting high-profile personalities.
OAU explained that events involving prominent figures require prior notification to enable the institution coordinate logistics and liaise with security agencies such as the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure safety.
It stated that because those critical arrangements could not be concluded within the limited time, approval for the use of Oduduwa Hall could not be granted.
The university stressed that the decision was guided strictly by security concerns and established procedures, and should not be interpreted as a slight against Obi or his status.
