The clarification came after a Facebook user, Chukwunenye Nweke, questioned how such an incident could occur without the agency’s knowledge, especially given its long-standing concerns about harmful cultural practices.

In its response, NAPTIP stated that it had no operational command in Delta State, which limited its ability to detect or respond to incidents in the area. The agency added that tackling human trafficking and gender-based violence requires collaboration from all sectors of society.

It urged the public to report suspicious activities, emphasizing the “see something, say something” approach, and encouraged citizens to use their platforms to raise awareness about the dangers of trafficking and gender-based violence.

NAPTIP also reiterated its condemnation of the alleged assault, describing it as a serious violation of human rights and dignity. The agency praised the Nigeria Police Force in Delta State for its swift action, including the arrest of suspects linked to the incident.

It further assured that it would continue to support efforts aimed at delivering justice for victims and preventing similar incidents in the future.
