The Rivers State native criticized Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for his attacks on the former governor of the state, Peter Odili.

In an interview with Arise News on Monday, Briggs pointed out that Wike’s political career would not have thrived without the support of Peter Odili. She explained that the ongoing power struggle in the state revolves around control over its economic resources.

“This is a struggle for power, control, and influence that has spiraled completely out of control. The former governor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is at the center of this political fiasco in Rivers State,” she said.

Briggs continued, stressing that after a year of escalating tensions since the media backlash began last October, it was high time for Wike and his supporters in Abuja to reassess their actions.

She further stated that Nyesom Wike must step aside and allow Governor Siminalaya Fubara to govern the state freely. Briggs noted that Wike would not have served two terms as Chairman of Obio/Akpor local government without the support of Peter Odili.

“The attacks on individuals, including Dr. Peter Odili and his wife, are completely unnecessary. We’ve seen videos of Nyesom Wike praising Dr. Odili, acknowledging the role he played in Wike’s political rise—from his second term as local government chairman to his eventual tenure as governor,” she said.

Briggs added that many people contributed to Wike’s political ascent, and if he helped Siminalaya Fubara become governor in 2023, the people of Rivers should not continue to endure the ongoing turmoil. “It’s clear that Wike is not ready to end this crisis, and that’s simply unacceptable,” she concluded.
