Wike-Backed Coalition Reveals Mission In Rivers As Labour Party Members Join
The Rainbow Coalition has dismissed allegations that it is plotting to take political control of Rivers State, insisting that its primary objective is to promote good governance and protect the interests of the people.
Speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, the coalition’s spokesman, Chibuike Ikenga, described claims of a planned “state capture” as unfounded and urged members of the public to disregard the allegations.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the Rainbow Coalition is a cross-party political alliance pioneered by Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, bringing together politicians from different political parties under the Renewed Hope Family in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Ikenga said the coalition was established to advance the interests of Rivers State through good governance, transparency, accountability and credible elections.
He pointed to the recent participation of Labour Party members in the coalition as evidence of its cross-party nature, noting that politicians from different political backgrounds were coming together in what he described as a broader effort to serve the interests of Rivers people.
The spokesman maintained that members of the coalition were not interested in taking over the state for personal or political gain, stressing that they were all stakeholders in the future of Rivers State.
He said the coalition’s agenda included promoting free, fair and credible elections, transparency in governance and accountability, while distancing the group from what he described as political practices that do not serve the people.
Ikenga further urged Rivers residents to focus on the coalition’s stated objectives rather than allegations that it was working towards capturing the state politically.
He reiterated that the Rainbow Coalition was committed to pursuing what it considers the genuine interests of Rivers State and its people through democratic and accountable governance.
