A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected the resolutions reached at the recent opposition summit held in Ibadan.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Prof. Abdulrahman Akinoso, and Secretary, Dr Abiola Olaonipekun, the group said it neither attended nor supported the outcome of the meeting.
The faction, operating under the leadership of former Deputy Governor Hazeem Gbolarumi, said it had no prior knowledge of the summit and was not represented at the gathering.
It further described the event as lacking constitutional legitimacy and authority to take binding political decisions.
“The so-called Ibadan summit is a ruse. It was merely an assemblage of individuals, not a legitimate convergence of political parties,” the statement said.
The group also dismissed any agreement emerging from the meeting to adopt a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.
It maintained that no recognised structure of the PDP at either state or national level approved participation in such a forum.
According to the faction, any coalition or alliance must follow proper party procedures and formal authorisation rather than informal engagements.
It also denied any alignment or agreement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or other opposition parties as suggested by the summit outcomes.
The group stressed that decisions of such political significance can only be made through due internal consultation within the party’s constitutional framework.
While noting ongoing political activities and realignments, the faction said its focus remains on strengthening the PDP’s internal structures rather than engaging in what it called premature coalition talks.
It also cautioned against reports linking the PDP to the Ibadan declaration, reaffirming its readiness to contest the 2027 elections under the party’s official platform.
