Wike Explodes: Unregistered Medical Facilities To Face Immediate Arrest And Prosecution

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered a sweeping crackdown on all unregistered hospitals and unlicensed medical practitioners operating within the FCT.

Wike issued a stern warning that anyone found running or working in an unregistered health facility would face arrest and prosecution.

He declared, “From now on, anyone caught operating or employed at an unregistered health facility will be arrested and prosecuted.”

The Minister made this known while responding to the tragic death of a pregnant woman at Afolmi Hospital, a private healthcare center in Durumi, Abuja, following a caesarean operation.

In a statement released on Saturday by Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, it was lamented that despite the free registration of pregnant women under the Federal Capital Territory Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS), many still fail to utilize the available services.

The statement partly reads:
“In the FCT, vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, are entitled to free enrollment into the FHIS, granting them access through Primary Health Care (PHC) centers to a wide range of services covered under the Basic Minimum Package of Health Services (BMPHS).

“Additionally, in support of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Wike’s commitment to eliminating maternal mortality, several FCT hospitals — including those in Gwarinpa, Nyanya, Abaji, and Kuje — have been upgraded to Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care (CEONC) centers. These facilities provide free cesarean section services.

“We once again urge our pregnant women to embrace the free health insurance scheme and steer clear of quack doctors and illegal health facilities.”
