Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has allocated 100 motorcycles to various security outfits and the Six Area Councils within the FCT as part of efforts to combat crime in the nation’s capital.

The distribution took place in Abuja on Monday, April 15, 2024, in a brief ceremony attended by Area Council Chairmen and Heads of Security Agencies.

Wike outlined the distribution plan, stating that each of the six Area Councils would receive 10 motorcycles to be assigned to their vigilante groups, while the police would receive 30. Additionally, the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) would each receive 5 motorcycles.

Expressing optimism about the impact of the motorcycles on improving security, Wike emphasized the importance of using them exclusively for combating crime in rural areas. He cautioned against misuse or diversion for commercial purposes, stressing the need to keep them away from urban centers.

Wike urged the recipients to ensure proper utilization of the motorcycles and emphasized the importance of delivering them to security outposts in rural areas to eliminate excuses related to challenging terrains.

In his address, he warned against any future reports of missing motorcycles, emphasizing the need for accountability and effective deployment in targeted areas to enhance security.

The initiative underscores the commitment of the FCT administration to bolstering security infrastructure and addressing crime challenges within the nation’s capital.
