Wike’s approval for the new wage was confirmed in a statement by the acting Head of Civil Service in the FCT, Grace Adayilo.
Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja during an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal access road, Wike emphasized that civil servants must meet higher expectations.
He explained that the wage adjustment was part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving the welfare of workers. “As part of this initiative, we’ve adopted the ₦70,000 minimum wage and approved the payment of arrears as agreed with the labour union,” Wike said.
He further urged workers to view the increase as an opportunity to demonstrate greater commitment, stating, “I expect that the workers will see this as a boost and become more dedicated to achieving the necessary development in the city.”
Wike also reminded civil servants that the payment of the new wage should not be seen as a reason for complacency. “More work is expected from you,” he added.
