Wike Meets Fubara Behind Closed Doors In Fresh Move To End Rivers Political Rift
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, and their supporters have met with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of his political camp in Port Harcourt.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the meeting was held behind closed doors as political stakeholders from both camps continued efforts to strengthen reconciliation in the state.
Wike and Chinda reportedly arrived at Governor Fubara’s residence in Port Harcourt at about 4 p.m., accompanied by their supporters. They subsequently joined Fubara and members of his camp for the discussions.
The engagement comes amid efforts to resolve longstanding political disagreements that have divided major political actors and their supporters in Rivers State.
The disputes had previously extended to a prolonged confrontation between Governor Fubara and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, contributing to heightened political tensions in the state.
The latest meeting was reportedly aimed at consolidating the reconciliation process and bringing key figures from the opposing camps together for further discussions.
The talks lasted several hours and ended at about 8 p.m. However, neither Wike, Chinda nor their supporters addressed journalists after the meeting.
Governor Fubara and members of his political team also declined to comment on the outcome of the closed-door engagement.
The silence from both sides has left the specific details and resolutions reached during the meeting undisclosed, although the gathering represents another engagement involving prominent figures previously associated with the political dispute in Rivers State.
