The meeting took place at the party’s National Secretariat and was presided over by the faction’s chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.
Several prominent political figures attended the gathering, including Wike; Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, who is also the PDP’s governorship candidate in Gombe State; and the party’s presidential candidate, Sandy Onor.
Also present were the PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu; members of the National Working Committee (NWC); the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mao Ohabunwa; and other senior party stakeholders.
One of the major items on the agenda was the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates who emerged victorious in the party’s primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Parallel Meeting Holds Elsewhere
Meanwhile, another PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki held a separate meeting at a different venue and also presented Certificates of Return to candidates elected under its platform.
While handing over the certificates, Turaki reportedly informed the candidates that they would be required to sign a written undertaking pledging not to defect from the PDP after winning elective office.
According to him, the commitment would be a prerequisite before the names of the candidates are forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for recognition ahead of the elections.
The parallel meetings highlight the continuing internal divisions within the PDP as rival groups seek to consolidate their positions ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
