Wike Reveals Three Key Sicknesses Every Politician Must HaveThe Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has shared that for a politician to succeed in office, they must possess three essential “sicknesses.” According to Wike, a politician should refrain from seeing, hearing, or speaking—focusing instead on delivering effective governance to the people.

Wike made these remarks on Friday while inaugurating the office for the Body of Benchers in Abuja. He expressed his satisfaction at being able to contribute to the development of legal education in the country, an achievement he hopes will leave a lasting legacy. As a member of the Body of Benchers, Wike assured that he would work hard to make the body proud during his tenure as FCT Minister.

“As a lawyer and bencher, I am happy that people will ask, ‘When you had the opportunity, when you went into office, what was your contribution to the development of legal education? What was your contribution to the judiciary?’” Wike said. “It’s easy to criticize from the outside, but when you’re given the opportunity, they will ask, ‘What did you do?’ I will be able to say, ‘Yes, as Minister of FCT, I contributed to this and that,’ and I will go home happy.”

Wike emphasized his commitment to making a significant impact during his time in office, stating, “I will make you proud and you will see a difference in governance.” He then humorously outlined the three “sicknesses” that every politician must have: “One, you can’t see. Two, you can’t talk. Three, you can’t hear.” Wike explained that some critics are out of sight and, as he cannot talk back, he will focus on his work instead.

The former governor of Rivers State also revealed plans for the construction of 10 residential buildings for lecturers at the Nigeria Law School in Abuja. He confirmed that the project would be flagged off on Monday, December 9th, as part of efforts to improve the infrastructure at the law school. Wike noted that the Nigerian government had recognized the need for this development, with President Bola Tinubu approving the project.

Wike continued, “We will be at the law school on Monday to launch the construction of about 10 residential buildings for the lecturers. The law school, being a public institution, lacks basic infrastructure. Mr. President saw this and approved the construction of additional housing for the lecturers. The project will be completed in 10 months.”

He assured that the necessary funds for the project were already in place, adding, “The money is there; this is not a project without a budget. We have at least 70 to 80% of the funds required for it. I want to sincerely thank Mr. President for his continuous support in enhancing the legal profession.
