Yarima, who was on duty alongside other security personnel, reportedly had a face-off with Wike over a contested land location in the Gaduwa District. The incident, which was recorded on video, triggered widespread public reactions and led to the Presidency stepping in to suspend the demolition exercise at the site.
In the aftermath, military veterans across the country criticised Wike for allegedly verbally abusing the officer and opposed calls for disciplinary action against Yarima.
Responding to questions during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, Wike said such incidents are sometimes unavoidable, noting that he is only human.
“Like I said, I am human; you can’t expect everything to go smoothly all the time. I have no regrets. Every decision I have taken, I have been able to achieve. Yes, there may be one or two setbacks—it’s bound to happen. But I don’t regret any decision I have made,” he said.
He added that such occurrences are common in politics and should not be viewed as insurmountable challenges.
“In politics, you should expect situations like this. When they happen, it doesn’t mean there are problems you cannot overcome, and we have continued to surmount them,” Wike stated.
