Speaking during his end-of-year media interaction, the former Rivers State governor said the PDP’s current leadership lacks direction, focus and the willingness to act decisively, noting that these shortcomings could cost the party the 2027 presidential race.
Wike, however, maintained that the party could recover and reclaim power by 2031 if it undergoes serious internal reforms and installs committed leaders.
“We have a leadership that is not focused, a leadership that does not know what to do and one that refuses to listen to advice,” he said.
According to him, genuine commitment from party leaders would make it possible to acknowledge past mistakes, reassess strategy and chart a clearer path forward.
He stressed that political success goes beyond merely seeking power, adding that the PDP must deliberately reposition itself to remain relevant.
“By 2027, we may not make it, but does that mean we should allow the party to die? Can’t we begin rebuilding now with 2031 in mind?” Wike asked.
The FCT minister said he had repeatedly warned about the consequences of poor leadership, insisting that the party’s current predicament was predictable.
He concluded by emphasising that leadership is central to success in any organisation, warning that failure to take the right decisions would inevitably attract serious consequences.
