The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka.

According to Olayinka, the FCTA’s Department of Development Control had ordered Gambo to halt construction on a disputed property for which he allegedly lacks proper title documents and building approval. However, instead of complying, Gambo reportedly deployed military personnel to the site to obstruct enforcement officers.

“Because he was told to stop building on land he has no title document or building approval, former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, sent his armed military security details to attack men of the FCTA Department of Development Control,” Olayinka alleged.

He further claimed that armed soldiers were stationed at the property to protect the ongoing development and threatened to shoot anyone who attempted to interfere.

Wike, who later visited the site after speaking with the Chief of Defence Staff, maintained that Gambo’s actions were illegal and warned that no one is above the law.

Speaking to journalists at the scene, the minister stressed that the former naval chief had no approval for the development and accused him of attempting to use the military to intimidate civil authorities.

“I cannot be intimidated. No one will be allowed to carry out illegal development in the FCT,” Wike declared.

He confirmed that he had already spoken with both the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff to address the matter.

Earlier, tensions flared when armed soldiers reportedly blocked Wike and his entourage from accessing the site in the Gaduwa district of Abuja, sparking a heated confrontation between the minister’s team and the military personnel on ground.
