Two distinguished traditional rulers from Bayelsa and Delta States have accused President Bola Tinubu of implementing the agenda of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in his decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The monarchs, HRM King Dodo II of the Bilabiri Kingdom and HRH King Jerry Prebor (Snr.), the Amananaowei of the Meinbutus Federated Communities, voiced their concerns over the presidential directive that led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other state officials.

Speaking to Saturday Vanguard, HRH Prebor criticized Tinubu’s actions as biased, noting that the President failed to hold Wike accountable despite his alleged role in the crisis.

“Throughout his broadcast, Tinubu never acknowledged the role of Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, in the turmoil unfolding in Rivers State. The President simply executed Wike’s agenda, which was to impeach Governor Fubara. Since impeachment failed, the declaration of a state of emergency became the alternative,” Prebor asserted.

He further alleged that the same “script” Tinubu followed was previously drafted for the Supreme Court, allowing the Rivers State House of Assembly to act with impunity in their impeachment attempts against the constitutionally elected governor.

“If the President had first sanctioned the minister responsible for the crisis, his actions would have been viewed differently. However, the truth remains that Governor Fubara is the people’s choice—humble and focused on development,” he added.

Similarly, King Dodo II condemned the move, describing it as undemocratic and oppressive.

“Rivers State is under siege. Removing a duly elected governor in this manner is unacceptable. It clearly shows that the federal government under Tinubu is following Wike’s directives. If the President is truly interested in resolving the crisis, he should start by sacking Wike, who is the architect of the entire turmoil,” King Dodo II stated.

He warned that failing to take action against Wike could allow the crisis to escalate beyond Rivers State and spread to other parts of the Niger Delta.
