During the interview, Soyinka asserted, “There was a concerted effort to annul the (2023) election before it unfolded. Notable figures, for reasons known only to them, advocated for an interim government, encountering opposition.”
He went on to describe a swift reaction after the voting process, revealing, “Shortly after the votes were cast, a letter surfaced addressed to the then-president, urging the annulment of the results even before allowing time for verification. The annulment was being pushed without a comprehensive examination of the election papers.”
Soyinka raised his allegation, stating, “I am contending that a conspiracy was in motion right from the outset, prior to the election, with the objective of preventing the elections from occurring and ensuring a predetermined outcome. It echoes the past experiences, reminiscent of the Babangida era, where we awoke to the annulment of tabulated elections.”
Expressing his concern, he warned, “History seemed poised to repeat itself, with certain individuals determined to regress us to a time when abrupt annulments characterized our electoral processes.
