Wolves Land Nigerian Goal Machine Tolu Arokodare In Blockbuster €27M Deal

Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to strengthen their attack after reaching an agreement in principle to sign Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare from Belgian club Genk in a deal worth €27 million.

The 23-year-old forward is scheduled to undergo his medical today, August 30, with the move poised to make him one of Wolves’ biggest signings of the summer transfer window.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed the breakthrough on Friday night, announcing:

“EXCLUSIVE: Wolves agree deal in principle to sign Tolu Arokodare as new striker from Genk, here we go! €27m fee agreed with Genk tonight and medical booked on Saturday for #WWFC new striker.”

Arokodare enjoyed a remarkable 2023/24 campaign, finishing as the Belgian Pro League top scorer with 23 goals and seven assists in 45 appearances, a run of form that made him one of the most sought-after young strikers in Europe.

His performances had drawn interest from AC Milan, who considered him a backup option after failing to secure Sporting CP’s Conrad Harder. However, Wolves acted decisively, moving ahead in negotiations after Genk’s sporting director Dimitri De Condé admitted earlier this month that the striker’s exit was “99 per cent certain,” adding that he was “very well in the market and ready for the next step.”

Born in Lagos, Arokodare began his European journey in Latvia before spells in France and Belgium. With transfer speculation hanging over him this season, his game time at Genk had been limited, featuring mostly as a substitute in just five matches.
