The statement specifically called out the website Daily Excessive, which published the false accusations. According to Bello’s office, the report fabricated quotes suggesting that the former governor intended to reveal how Tinubu became president.
Bello’s media team dismissed the story as a baseless fabrication, stating, “Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have responded to such an absurd tale, as no informed Nigerian would take this ridiculous story seriously, especially since court records are public documents.” The former governor further explained that the false narrative was part of a political plot to create division between him and President Tinubu.
The statement continued, “Our attention has been drawn to a mischievous and senseless report by a blog called Daily Excessive, which falsely attributed quotes to our principal, the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, suggesting that he would reveal how President Tinubu became president.”
Bello’s office emphasized the importance of addressing the false claims, stating, “This clarification is necessary, especially for social media users who spread fake news without fact-checking.”
The statement also pointed out that the circulation of such misinformation is part of a broader issue with the spread of fake news. “The report by Daily Excessive, quoting the former governor as saying he would expose how President Tinubu became president, is misleading and a reflection of the ignorance and malice of some detractors,” the media office declared.
Bello’s team further clarified that since the former governor had only entered a plea in court and no trial had yet begun, any claims of him possessing confidential or damaging information about Tinubu’s rise to power were entirely fabricated. “The court is open to journalists and stakeholders, so no informed Nigerian would consider this report from Daily Excessive credible. But as they say, a conquered mind is a sick mind, which explains the motives of these mischief-makers,” the statement concluded.
